Bob Hates You ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Bob Hates You mobile application and this website. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share information when you use our app or visit our site.

Information we collect

  • Account information. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive basic profile data from your identity provider (such as display name, email address, and a unique user ID) through Firebase Authentication.
  • Gameplay data. We store run summaries such as final score, questions answered, tier reached, and run end reason in Cloud Firestore for telemetry and support.
  • Question delivery. When you play, the app calls our backend to fetch trivia questions. We record which questions were served to your account to avoid repeats within a tier pool.
  • Question feedback. If you report a question or submit a like/dislike vote, we store the question identifier, your chosen reason (for reports), an optional comment, and your account ID so we can review content and improve the question bank.
  • Local device data. The app may store preferences (volume, cutscene settings, haptics) and your best run score locally on your device.
  • Platform services. If you use leaderboards, Apple Game Center or Google Play Games may process score submissions according to their own policies.
  • Diagnostics. We may use Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics to understand app usage and stability. We do not intentionally log full question text in analytics events.

How we use information

  • Provide and operate the game (authentication, questions, scoring, leaderboards)
  • Maintain your account and saved progress
  • Improve reliability, security, and gameplay balance
  • Review reported questions and maintain the trivia content library
  • Respond to support requests
  • Comply with legal obligations

What we do not do

  • We do not sell your personal information.
  • We do not use anonymous sign-in; an account is required to play.
  • We do not provide a public social profile or in-app chat at this time.

Third-party services

We use service providers that process data on our behalf, including:

  • Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Functions, Analytics, Crashlytics)
  • Google Sign-In / Apple Sign-In (identity providers you choose)
  • Apple Game Center and Google Play Games (leaderboards, when enabled)
  • Apple App Store and Google Play (in-app purchases such as Time Rewind and Bank Tokens)

Each provider's privacy policy applies to their handling of your data. We encourage you to review those policies.

Data retention

We retain account and gameplay records for as long as your account exists or as needed to operate the service, resolve disputes, enforce our terms, or comply with law. You can delete your account in the app (Settings → Delete account) or see Delete account for details.

Children

Bob Hates You is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

Security

We use industry-standard measures through Firebase and platform security features. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

Your choices

  • You can sign out of the app at any time from Settings.
  • You can delete your account from Settings → Delete account (see Delete account).
  • You can request access, correction, or deletion by emailing us.
  • Depending on your region, you may have additional privacy rights under applicable law.

International users

Our services are hosted in the United States and may be accessed from other countries. By using the app, you understand your information may be processed in the U.S. and other locations where our providers operate.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and update the "Last updated" date. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
